Subject: ants vs me & the hummingbirds

What works to discourage ants from taking over hanging hummingbird feeders.
One way to do this is run the wire from which the feeder hangs
thru a small moat filled with something toxic to ants,such as diesel
fuel.The moat is easily made from a 1 inch copper,plumbing cap available
in hardware stores.A bit of soldering is required to make the moat leak
proof but the contraption works.
