This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Tuesday March 4 09:29 PM update.

Featured birds are Slaty Backed Gull and Eared Grebe. There will be a short
announcement at the end of this message.

Sightings for Tuesday March 4

A Slaty-backed Gull in breeding plumage and a Western Gull were seen today
at Burns drive in a large flock of mixed gulls. Seen from the Iona S jetty
were 3 snow buntings and an Eared Grebe.
Four of the 7 Brandt seen at Boundary Bay Regional Park this morning were
shot by hunters. Two Eurasian Widgeon were seen off the Coal Port jetty.

Sightings for Monday March 3

In Delta 4 Bohemian Waxwings were in crab apple trees on 64th south of 34b
and a dark phase Rough-legged Hawk was near the railway tracks on 64th. A
SE Owl was at Boundary Bay Regional Park. 2 Greater White fronted geese
were in a flock of Canada Geese at Mason creek E of Fort Langley and 2
Coopers Hawks were in a yard in the 6600 block of Kalodin in Vancouver.

Sightings for Sunday March 2

Seen from the S jetty at Iona were 3 Snow Buntings including 1 male molting
into breeding plumage, a very large flock of Scoters containing all 3
species, 215 Oldsquaw and 3 Eurasian Widgeon. Also at Iona were 4 RL Hawks
and 3 Virginia Rails calling behind the Sewage Plant. An Eared grebe was
seen from the White Rock pier and 75-100 Tree Swallows were at Minnekada
Regional Park. The first Rufous hummingbird of the spring was seen in the
14900 block of 24th Ave. in S Surrey. 23 snowy Owls and a RL Hawk were seen
at 64th Ave. in Boundary bay. 610 Brandt and Yellow-shafted flicker were at
Boundary Bay Regional Park.

This month's Birders night program will be held at St. Matthias Anglican
Church, 680 W 49th Avenue in Vancouver, starting at 7:30 p.m. Artist Lex
Hedley will speak on Sketching and Painting Birds in British Columbia.
