Yes, dumb luck helps. I remember one rainy June day in 1995 walking the
Fort George Canyon Trail near Prince George here in central B.C. and chancing
on a Three-toed Woodpecker nest (the babes are *very* noisy in the nest).
Having checked out the woodies, I sensed something over my shoulder. Turning
around, there was a female Rufous hummer on an exquisite nest tucked into the
axil of a birch bough, happily protected by a few overhanging leaves. I
suppose she had shifted in the nest which caught my attention.
