The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow
the prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

The Washington Ornithological Society would like to see the BirdBox
become a statewide aid to Birders. One of the reasons for this transcription
is as a service to those outside the local calling area and for people living
outside WA who are interested for whatever reason. We would like to offer an

10:14 PM, March 5 - Hi, Tom Aversa here at 782-7342. Just a little message
for you potentian sapsucker searchers. That guy that lives up there on
McCormick Road. He's a little bit frightening so you might want to be aware
of that. He very much disapproves of people walking or even driving by his
house. He lives in the first house on the left so you probably don't want to
go that far unless you want to have some trouble with him. I went up there
today and I didn't have any luck finding the sapsucker. But this guy who is
the resident in that house kind of cruises the road in his blue pickup truck
so you may want to avoid him. Just a warning.
I did have a pair of early Cinnamon Teal on Route 6 further down towards
Chehalis at the intersection of Boisfort Road. Thanks, good luck, good

4:24 PM, March 7 - This is David Beatty in Hoquiam. There is a gray phase
Gyrfalcon at Bowerman Basin, hanging around the Hoquiam Sewage Lagoon. I saw
it at 4 PM today on the tower just south of the Sewage Lagoon in the bay. It
was reported earlier today actually on the dock that juts out into the Sewage
Lagoon. It was also around Bowerman Basin yesterday, Friday. So if you're
heading out to Grays Harbor for the weekend, you might want to stop by and
take a look at it. Thanks.

4:46 PM, March 7 - This is David Beatty. I want to give an update on the
Gyrfalcon that I reported earlier. I want to give credit to Dan Varland(sp.),
who is a wildlife biologist with Rayonnier down here in Hoquiam. He actually
banded that Gyr yesterday, Thursday, around noontime. He's the one who
notified me of it and here on Friday its still around. If you do come to see
it, see if you can take a look at the band. Thanks a lot, goodby.

6:42 PM, March 7 - This is Barbara Bates and on the 5th of March, I saw 5
Black-crowned Night-Herons in breeding plumage and then again today on the
7th, I saw 4 of them in the same location. Traveling north on I-5 and get off
on Exit 221 and you go left which is west. Immediately after you cross the
freeway there's Fir Road off to the right continuing west. You take that
road, there's a store right there, 3.2 miles in from the store there's a
little dike. You stop there. Look south of the road 20 feet and the birds are
in some reeds or in the bush that's there.
