Word has reached us from a friend who works at a small, relatively
unknown laboratory in Eastern Europe ( whose location must, of course be
kept secret to protect him ) of a new development in the
"clone-wars". They have successfully extracted DNA from the fertilized
egg of a species of large falcon native to the steppes and implanted it
in the fertilized egg of a dog. The puppies (there were four, two died
shortly after birth) are thin, covered with short, smooth brown-to-black
fur, which tends to ruffle up over the shoulders and back, where a large
pair of wings grow. The wings are still partially in down (as of the time
of our report) but appear to be fully functional. The two surviving
puppies, a male and a female, are now eight weeks old and seem to be in
excellent health. With their apparent musculature and light weight bones
and thin bodies, there is every reason to believe that pups will soon be
capable of flight. Our source reports that they have not been
individually named yet and are referred to individually, as "male" and
"female", but the decision has been made to name the species, if they do
survive to adulthood and fly, "WAFFENPINSCHER". ;-)
