Gosh, you guys are providing some interesting input on saw-whet calls. I'm
not sure I quite followed that story about Audubon bungling the name but
things like that happen. For instance, the city of Nome, AK is supposed to
have gotten its name from someone seeing an early map of it on which the
cartographer had written at the top "Name?" And you've probably heard of
why Chicken, AK is so-named. No one knew how to spell Ptarmigan.

Maybe we ought to call it the "Say What?" owl.
