Nexrad is "next generation radar" or WSR-88D. About 125 of these new radars have
been installed across the country over the past 5 years. Those in the Pacific Northwest
are Camano Island, Spokane, Pendleton, and NW of Portland.

At Sand Point in Seattle is a vertically pointing radar called a wind profiler. It
does a magnificent job of tracking migrating birds at night. Instead of measuring
wind velocity (its intended job), it measures bird velocities during migration periods.
