Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday March 13. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976. The female KING EIDER is still being seen along the South Jetty
of Yaquina Bay. At least two pairs of OLDSQUAWS are also in the area. The
CHIPPING SPARROW coming to Chuck Philo's feeders in Toledo is now said to
be in bright winter plumage.

The EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL is still in the Tillamook area. On March 9
it was among the ducks on the flooded fields behind the Blue Heron Cheese
Factory north of town.

A pair of SNOW BUNTINGS were on the beach at Gearhart March 8. Two SNOWY
OWLS are still at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

The EMPEROR GOOSE is still at Lewis and Clark State Park on the Sandy River
east of Portland.

A GYRFALCON was seen March 11 near the intersection of Dike Road and
Columbia Road in Scappoose Bottoms. It could not be relocated. A GOLDEN
EAGLE was along Dike Road March 10. Up to seven GREAT EGRETS continue to be
seen in Scappoose Bottoms.

A heavy movement of TREE and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS passed through Oregon
during the week. Cold snowy weather east of the Cascades concentrated the
birds at the more protected bottomlands.

Migrant BAND-TAILED PIGEONS arrived in numbers in western Oregon during the
week. Resident BAND-TAILEDS were fledging young as the migrants arrived. A
MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE visited a northeast Portland feeder March 8 while an
early OSPREY was on its nest in North Portland March 9.

A first winter GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL was at Mirror Pond in Bend March 12.
Good numbers of WESTERN BLUEBIRDS arrived in Central Oregon during the
week.
