Today at Green Lake on the road opposite Bathhouse Theater, maybe ten
feet up in an evergreen tree, I saw ten bushtits lined up in a row on
a single branch, snuggled so close together that I had to count them
several times to be sure I got it right. The first seven were facing
me, the last three were facing away. An eleventh was close by, on
another branch. It was sunny but cold out, so I suppose they were
keeping warm. They didn't seem to mind that I came close under them
to observe. As I read what I've written here, it doesn't sound like
much, but when I stood there it was a very neat thing. Probably most
experienced birders have seen such things, but it certainly supports
the recent thread about often-seen birds doing different things, at
least in terms of my limited experience.

It's also conforting to see a gazillion swallows swooping out in
the middle of Green Lake again.
