North Creek County Park is a new county park. It is a wetland along
North Creek just south of Mill Creek. From I-405 take Hwy
527(Bothell-Everett Hwy) north. Turn west on 183rd which is where
Cascade Auto Wrecking is. The park has a floating boardwalk through
the wetland. If you want to see the wetland in its current state, as
it has evolved in modern times, do it soon. The county is building a
storm retention structure on North Creek and the wetland will be used
as a storm water retention pond. That explains why the boardwalk
mooring pilings are six feet tall. I am told this is the only way the
county could justify spending this much money on a park. Don't know
any of the details of that battle. The point is the character of the
current wetland is going to change, probably somewhat drastically.
This is a good opportunity for folks who are concerned about habitat
to see if this kind of urban flood control is good public policy or
not.
