Hi Tweets,
I saw the great gray today around mid-afternoon. It was off
the main trail roughly halfway to the power lines. It was
first spotted on the left (as one heads uphill from the arena),
but eventually flew across the trail to the right.
For some of the time it was far enough off the trail
that it would have been hard to find had it
not been for its assembled admirers. However, it was close
enough to enjoy for a long time. (I left after 45 minutes or so.)
Although I did see it in a tree, more often it perched on the
top of a snag or stump.
Hi to the Tweeters who were there and feel free to add to
my comments. You might have more accurate descriptions than
mine since I don't wear a watch and wasn't noting the location
with great care, as I was on my way back.
There were perhaps a dozen or so birders and riders of all ages
watching the owl, a very nice and cosiderate group.
