Hi Tweeters-

Today my brother Ron and I went to visit an older couple in Granby, CT
who have been playing host to a female western tanager since January
11th.

Since they first saw this rare visitor coming to the feeders in their
yard, they have tried various types of food to tempt her into staying.
Among the foods tried were the usual seed varieties, various fruits,
suet, cheese, bread, cracker, and mealworms.

So, what does this very particular lady bird prefer above all other
foods?
BLUEBERRY MUFFINS!!!!

What a treat to see this bright little Western visitor among the
black-capped chickadees, dark-eyed juncos and tufted titmice in an
ice-encrusted northern Connecticut back yard!

This is the first documented record of a western tanager in Connecticut.
Although one was apparently seen approximately 20 years ago, it was
never properly documented.

Thanks for sharing!
