One of the best ways to distinquish the two is by sound. My understanding
that "Trumpeter" is a very good description of the way a trumpeter swan
actually sounds--much different from a tundras less hardy sound. An
expert pointed out the difference to me as both types flew over, and it
was quite easy to tell the differece.
