Today I saw the first Rufus Hummingbird at my feeder, a beautiful male. He
joins the 7 Calif. Quail, 10 Pine Siskins, 2 Mallards, 2 Downy Woodpeckers, 6
Varied Thrushes, 3 Song Sparrows, House Finches, chickadees, nuthatches,
Spotted Towhees, juncos, and Northern Flicker that frequent my yard. A
couple of days ago, 2 flickers were on the deck railing about 2 feet apart.
They hopped in unison along the wood railing for about 8 feet; the pursuer
had its tail flared, until the pursued flew off. Nice show.
