It seems that bird survived the attention quite well. Well enough to
make it to its breeding grounds, perhaps?

Am I naive to think that the Skagit Great Gray had plenty of room to get
away from the crush of people? As I recall, it generally stayed near the
road. Since I think it was on private property it could have put a
significant cushion between itself and we masses. I guess maybe owls
don't think that way, but my impression is the people caused little or
no stress.

P.S. Has anyone had a look at comet Hale-Bopp? Zowie!
