I think this is a great idea, particularly for those of us with
limited experience in writing 'official' bird reports. But who is
going to volunteer to have their records, accepted or not, hacked to
bits?

Another idea: What if we went into the field, wrote up and posted a
careful sighting report for an unusual (but not necessarily rare)
bird, pretending that no photographic or physical evidence was
available. Then everyone could rip it to shreds. After all, I haven't
had a cavity filled in several years and I kind of miss the
experience.

Actually, this approach might yield quite biased reports, because
most of us hardly look at the more common birds, since we 'already
know' what they look like.
