Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday March 20. If you have anything to add call Harry nehls at
233-3976.

The male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD wintering at a Grants Pass feeder continues to
be seen. Last week a second male COSTA'S appeared at a feeder about ten
miles from the wintering bird.

The two SNOWY OWLS and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK remain at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River. A SHORT-EARED OWL was there March 14.

Shorebirds, CINNAMON TEAL, and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS began moving through
Oregon during the week. Migrant YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were reported from
the Rogue Valley over the week-end. Large numbers of RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS
and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS arrived with many local birds showing up in city
neighborhoods.

Two REDHEADS continue to be seen along Reeder Road at the county line on
the east side of Sauvie Island. A BRANT has been at Tanasbrook, on the east
edge of Hillsboro all week. A BONAPARTE'S GULL and an EARED GREBE were at
the Forest Grove Ponds March 17. Two WESTERN GREBES were at Baskett Slough
NWR March 13.

The large gull flock continues to be found at the Polk/Benton County line.
On March 16 eight species of gulls, including WESTERN and GLAUCOUS were
noted there.

Among the swarm of swallows in Eugene March 17 were several ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOWS.

On March 15 a MOCKINGBIRD was found near Echo, west of Pendleton. Along
Echo Meadows Road, just south of the freeway is a gravel road named Emert
Road. Go west 1.7 miles to near the most western pond. LONG-BILLED CURLEWS
arrived back in Umatilla County during the week.

Thats all for this week.
