This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for March 19,

Ron and Carol Louderback reported seeing the NORTHERN HAWK OWL in Cheney on
March 8 and again on March 10, still near the corner of Elm and Washington
Streets. They also saw the NORTHERN CARDINAL in Lewiston on March 9.

On March 10, Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFramboise observed 32 TUNDRA SWAN on a
snow-melt pond along McBee Road in the Horse Heaven Hills as well as a SAY'S
PHOEBE in a farmyard along County Wells Road. They also reported a
BURROWING OWL along Keene Road, west of Dallas Road.

3 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in a flock of Cedars found the LaFramboise yard to their
liking on March 15.

Also on March 15, Tony Greager observed 7 WESTERN BLUEBIRDS at the west end
of McNary Park, near the Umatilla bridge.

Again, on March 15, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth Fischer reported 2
LONG-BILLED CURLEW in the Candy Mountain vicinity, 45 SANDHILL CRANE flying
over Jacobs Road, 90 TUNDRA SWAN on the McBee Road pond mentioned earlier
and a FERRUGINOUS HAWK near the junction of Case and Snipes Roads on the
south side of Rattlesnake Mountain.

On March 16, Mary Nowakowski found a SPOTTED TOWHEE in her Richland yard and
Tony Greager observed 3 WESTERN BLUEBIRDS near Twin Bridges and 2 CLIFF
SWALLOWS near the mouth of Webber Canyon.

Other March 16 sightings include 40 SANDHILL CRANE over Phil Bartley's
Kennewick yard and an estimated 60 SANDHILL CRANE over Madeleine Brown's
Richland yard. Madeleine also mentioned that Maggie Carmon(?) of Prosser
has had about 12 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON wintering in her backyard on the
Yakima River this and last winter.

Mike Lilga found 6 LONG-BILLED CURLEW in a field south of the Battelle
buildings in North Richland plus about 12 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS in a
mixed blackbird flock on March 17. He also has heard LONG-EARED OWLS in WE
Johnson park recently.

Also on March 17, Kathy Criddle and Lisa Fitzner saw a GOLDEN EAGLE near
Beloit Avenue on the Hanford Reservation and also a WESTERN BLUEBIRD and
SAGE SPARROW NEST WITH 2 EGGS.

Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFramboise found a FERRUGINOUS HAWK in Webber Canyon
on March 18 while on March 19, Dennis Rockwell saw 3 CASPIAN TERNS over the
Two Rivers Park lagoon.
