Dear Tweeters,

I am seeking your expertise.

I am currently updating and revising the Washington Department of Fish
and Wildlife's Priority Habitats and Species management recommendations
for the American White Pelican (Pelicanus erythrorhynchos) and am
interested in the most recent information (1993-present) on the
distribution and abundance of American White Pelicans throughout the
state of Washington. Although the Department of Fish and Wildlife along
with other State and Federal agencies has a great deal of information I
would like to supplement it with information from other sources such as
the birders from Tweeters.

I am specifically interested Washington records of: 1) non-breeding
summer populations (locations, numbers); 2) wintering populations
(locations, numbers); 3) any new information on breeding birds (Pelicans
have bred on Crescent Island, Walla Walla County for the past three
summers (1994,95,95) after a 60+ year absence of breeding in the state;
see Ackerman, S.M. 1994. American White Pelicans nest successfully
at Crescent Island, Washington. Washington Birds 3:44-49.).

I am primarily seeking information on regularly occurring populations,
although I would like to hear about other records (birds in migration) as
well. Additionally, I would be interested in arrival and departure dates
if available.

Please respond directly to me at:
doranpjd at dfw.wa.gov

If anyone expresses interest I will summarize the responses and post them
to Tweeters.

Thanks,
