Last fall I posted on how the construction at Golden Gardens had driven
away all the birds that hang around in the thickets north of the scrub
willows at Meadow Pt. I asked at the time how long it wold take for the
birds to return. Well, this morning I saw a pair of Golden Crowned
Sparrows in the remaining blackberry thicket, and a pair of Killdeer just
to the north, the larger of the two was displaying and calling with a
long single 'dee' repeated continually. The smaller, was quiet and seemed
to ignore the other. Kind of cool to see, even if they are as common as
dirt. Song Sparrows were very vocal in the trees along the railroad
tracks as well. Also present were about 30 Brant on Meadow Pt, 25 to 30
Barrows Goldeneyes just to the north, American Wigeons and Mallards
paired up and swimming happily in the new pond. (I know that's
anthropomorphic, but they _looked_ happy, except when a dog jumped into
the pond and scared them away, that pond's their home, dammit!) And true
to form, there was a Bald Eagle soaring overhead. Yesterday a mature,
today an immature.
