The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow the
prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

1:58 p.m. 03-22-97: My name is Reg Jackson, 206-883-0573. I wish to
report a female GREAT HORNED OWL with two youngsters in the nest
approximately one and a quarter miles north of the bridge on Spencer
Island in a tree about 40 feet--30 to 40 feet--up and approximately 60
feet--50 to 70 feet--from the trail going north. The nest area is just
before you make the extreme right turn on the trail. The youngsters look
fine. They are fluffy, no feathers showing yet. I found it most
interesting--don't normally see owls with youngsters at that stage of the
development.

12:16 p.m. 03-23-97: This is Scott Richardson, 526-0544 in Seattle. On
the morning of Sunday, the 23rd of March, we saw a SAY'S PHOEBE on the
south bluff at Discovery Park. It was working its way around the mud bank
and fluttered away from us. It wasn't present when we departed around 11
o'clock.
