Thanks to the info from Kaw Dumroese and the E. Wa hotline my husband, sister
and brother-in-law and I went to the Scootenay Reservoir near Othello on Sat.
to see the 1000 cranes that were there. The cranes were on the far side of
the reservoir in the farm fields (what a noisy group!). Mixed in with them
were hundreds of Canada Geese and a few Snow Geese (?). I'm a backyard
birder so bear with me on some of my descriptions :). Also at the reservoir
were W. Meadowlarks, Robins, Towhees, Red-Winged Blackbirds, Coots, Mallards,
Pintails, seagulls and numerous N. Harriers.

On our drive back through the Columbia Plateau toward George we saw:
Kestrels, Starlings, Red-Tailed Hawks, Crows, Ravens, shorebirds (couldn't
idenity), Killdeer, Mourning Doves, Yellow-Headed Blackbirds, Buffleheads,
Lesser Scaup, Goldeneyes, Avocets, Ring necked Ducks, Pigeons, Violet-green
Swallows, Double Crested Cormorants, No. Shovelers, American Wigeons, Pied
Grebe, Black-billed Magpies, Green winged Teal, Redhead Ducks, Burrowing
Owl, Shrike, Long-billed Curlew (?). Plus, marmots and turtles. All-in-all
a fun day.
