Sunday I noticed a Band-tail Pigeon (or perhaps there were two)
fluttering back and forth in the ravine behind my house on Queen Anne in
Seattle. Apparently it was building a nest because when I looked in the
same place Monday morning there was a pigeon sitting on a nest. Bent
reports WA/OR egg dates of May 3 to July 12 so this seems awfully early.
On the other hand Bent had a very small sample (6) and these birds
probably haven't laid eggs yet. Has anyone else found them nesting this
early? I've been wondering for a couple years whether they nest in the
ravine since I see them fairly regularly. Hope the squirrels, crows,
and jays don't get them. Unfortunately I expect by the time eggs are
hatched that the nest won't be visible through leaves.
