The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce does not have the power to open or close
the Long Beach Pennisula. If you look on a map, you'll discover that "the
longest beach in the world" actually goes through many communities, all of
them tourist driven. And if you've ever been to the pennisula you soon
discover that eco-tourism is way down on the list of activities. The business
folks make their living selling kites and clam shovels, then encourage people
to drive out on the beach to use them.

The issue of driving on the beach is not unique to Long Beach most of Oregon
is drivable. I have salvaged many birds that were quite deliberately run
down.

Any effort to protect beaches from unlimited vehicular access will have to
go to your state legislature and if like efforts in Oregon are any indication
the majority of the public will side with free-range.
