Just one more idea: check out "Hawks in Flight" by Dunne, Sibley et
al. Basic premise of the book is: forget the plumage, it's too
unpredictable to use to positively ID raptors.. Tells you things to
look for in shape, size, flight patterns, etc. Really a helpful book.
