Subject: Birds and trees along the Burke-Gillman

Dear Sir,

I wanted to inform you of plans of the King County Park Department to
cut the trees down and distroying the habitat of the birds and other
animals of a 6-7 block portion of the Burke-Gillman trail. The section
is near Lake Forest Park on Beach Drive. The families along this part
of the trails, as well as the hundreds of users of the trail have not
been asked for their opinion until now. There is a meeting at the Lake
Forest Park City Hall, 17711 Ballinger Way, NE, on May 8, 6-8PM. A
letter sent out by Joe Wilson, Property Management Coordinator, Parks
Department, speaks of the removal of trees and vegetation later in May.
This tells me that they have already made up their minds and they are
not really interested in community input.

The real motivation behind this is the decision of a local Councilman to
protect the view of his house on the hill. This means the sacrificing of
many tree and nesting places for birds for his resale value of his home.

Can you provide suggestions how we can save this area from
clear-cutting? Your input and help would be appreciated. We are just
local people trying to save the area we live in.
