11:38 a.m. 05-05-97: This is Hugh Jennings at 425-746-6351 in Bellevue,
Washington. Just to report after a great weekend at the WOS convention in
Kennewick, I got back to doing my usual walk of the Lake Hills Greenbelt.
Had 34 species this morning, but of special interest were 5 AMERICAN
PIPIT that I saw feeding in a newly ploughed field [and] 1 LEAST
SANDPIPER in another wet field where we'd seen about 30 Western Sandpiper
a week ago, but there's only 1 LEAST SANDPIPER now. There were also 2
COMMON SNIPE in that same field. And then over at Larson Lake, there were
2 CINNAMON TEAL, a pair of them at the lake--first I've seen in a number
of years there. Thank you.

1:55 p.m. 05-05-97: Hi, this is Dave Beaudette, 206-365-2083. Spent the
morning of May 5th birding the Stillaguamish Valley in Snohomish County.
In a pasture southwest of I-5 and the Pioneer Highway was a flock of 82
WHIMBREL. In the vicinity of Norman Road and Baldy Road were 25 WHIMBREL.
And at the intersection of Norman Road and 36th Avenue NW was a WESTERN
KINGBIRD. Good birding.

9:46 a.m. 05-06-97: Hello, this is Scott Atkinson. Today, May 6th, I saw
a calling DUSKY FLYCATCHER along the edge of the main meadow at Discovery
Park. This is not far from where I had a bird that stayed for a couple of
weeks during May of last year. Also present in this area, a HAMMOND'S
FLYCATCHER, 10 WARBLING VIREOS, and good numbers of WILSON'S WARBLERS,
among other passerine migrants. Also, on Sunday, May 4th, although I was
unable to locate all the goodies that Gary Bletsch and Keith Wiggers had
along Dalsted [sp?] Road to the south, I did find 2 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS in a large flock of LEAST and WESTERN peep at the dairy farm
pond along the south edge of Stadpole [sp??] Road. This road runs
east/west just east of I-5 midway between Mt. Vernon and Conway. Also
that morning, I had a WESTERN KINGBIRD just east of the Island Crossing
intersection with I-5 along Route 530. That's all. Bye-bye.

11:06 a.m. 05-06-97: Hi, this is Jason Coughlin-Starfire, 542-3756. Just
getting back recently from the WOS conference over in the Tri-Cities and
I'm passing along some good birds: a SNOWY EGRET at Crow Butte and a
SOLITARY SANDPIPER just over the railroad tracks on ??? [sounds like Gap]
Road coming out of the area. Also seen were FERRUGINOUS HAWKS, GOLDEN
EAGLES, CHUKARS, GRAY PARTRIDGES, and an assortment of eastern Washington
birds. If you haven't been over there yet, it'd be a good trip. Good luck
and good birding.
