We spent the past weekend at Stehekin. On Lake Chelan there were COMMON LOON (1
in basic and 1 in alternate plumage), EARED GREBE (3), BUFFLEHEAD, BARROW"S
GOLDENEYE, MALLARD, CANADA GOOSE, and small rafts of COMMON MERGANSER,
RING-NECKED DUCK (53) and WESTERN GREBE.

At Stehekin we saw or heard PILEATED WOODPECKER, SWAINSON'S THRUSH (3 singing),
ROBIN, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, TREE SWALLOW, VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW, BREWER'S
BLACKBIRD, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, STELLER'S JAY, TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE (5),
JUNCO, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, PURPLE FINCH, CHIPPING SPARROW and WHITE-THOATED
SWIFT (5).

On the way home on Rte 153 and the turnoff to Alta Lake there was a GRAY
CATBIRD and a kettle of TURKEY VULTURES.

The weather was comfortable cool with some minor showers. The watersfalls were
in full spate. The road at Stehekin is open to High Bridge but there are snow
drifts everywhere. Snow is solid 3/4 the way up to Coon Lake and is was very
silent there, except for the hum of voracious mosquitoes.
