My alternative to the WOS conference was a weekend flyfishing trip in the
Soap Lake - Moses Lake area. I can always bird while fishing but it is
sometimes tough to fish while I am birding.

Camped at Blue Lake Resort north of Soap Lake. Lots of yellow headed
blackbirds in the reeds with the red-winged blackbirds. A pair of red necked
grebes on the lake and lots of ring-billed gulls. Also saw osprey and an
american avocet on the road to Moses Lake south of Soap Lake on Friday
evening. Saturday at 6:45 pm a large bird with a long down-curved bill flew
over the truck as we sped by the same area. I think it was a curlew but
couldn't be sure. Saw both goldeneyes, a pair of gadwall, eared grebes, &
cinnamon teal to name a few.

I had forgotten how pretty that area is in the spring. I saw about 40
different species that I could identify...not bad for a side light...better
then the fishing was.

Hope all enjoyed the WOS conference. Hope to see you there at the next one.
