Hi Cathi,

Sounds like you had a fun trip. Lazuli Bunting is my best guess at your
mystery bird. It is blue, obviously, it has the wingbars, and is smaller
than the Black Phoebe. The habitat sounds like Lazuli Bunting, also. There
aren't any other similar birds that have the wingbars, except for Blue
Grosbeak which has brown wingbars and has a very large bill. The only other
possibilities are Western and Mountain Bluebirds, which are larger, not
smaller, than Black Phoebe, and definitely do not have wingbars. Anyways,
that's what I think it probably was! Good birding!
