I have been on the look out for an American Bittern for years now. Every marsh that I have visited has been carefully scanned. But always I was thwarted. No bitterns.
Yesterday an American Bittern landed on my front lawn. It stood, neck stretched, looking like a twig in the air, for about 10 minutes.
What a surprise!
