Andy asked if Blue Grouse normally call late into the night or just early
in their breeding cycle.

I participated in the May Okanagan Big Day a few years back and was
suprised when we encountered displaying Spruce Grouse very early in the
morning. We were owling at about 1300 meters ( at 4000 ft) and it was at
least 1 hour before the first light. It isn't quite the same as late
evening but it was dark. The following year we were able to locate the
birds again at virtually the same spot though it was almost dawn and they
were in full wing clap/flutter mode.
