I received a message from a birder in Virginia who will be visiting
Washington in June. I am sure that if you have good locations for some of
the species he lists, he would be happy to hear from you. If you wish, you
can post your messages to me or to tweeters as well, and I will forward
those responses to him. Thanks, AJ

Dear Alan,

Hello! I got your name and address out of the ABA directory. I am an
avid Virginia birder who will be traveling to the Seattle/Snoqualmie
area on business from June 17 to 20. I will have a rental car and
hopefully a couple of free afternoons in which to do some birding.
Given that I rarely get a chance to come West, there are a few target
species that I especially would like to see. I would deeply
appreciate any information you might provide about persons to contact
or sites where I might have a decent chance of seeing any of the
following:

Gray Partridge
Chukar
Spruce Grouse
Sharp-tailed Grouse
Mountain Quail
Northern Pygmy-Owl
Great Gray Owl
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Black-backed Woodpecker
Townsend's Solitaire
White-winged Crossbill.

I have a 1977 copy of the site guide to Washington and realize that
several of these birds are probably found a good deal further to the
east than I will be able to visit. Hopefully, I couple of them might
be reliably found within striking distance of where I will be
staying. I will be attending meetings at the Salish Lodge in
Snoqualmie. I have the afternoons of at least the 17th and the 20th
free. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Good birding,

George Wheaton
