12:30 p.m. 05-09-97: This is Hal Opperman, 425-635-0503, reporting on the
Seattle Audubon Society Birdathon trip yesterday led by Bob Sundstrom and
me, with 13 participants. We started from Lincoln Park, took the ferry to
South Worth, continued to Discovery Bay, and by ferry to Whidbey Island.
Highlights of 110+ species observed in King, Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson,
Clallam, and Island Counties included: 2 MOUNTAIN QUAIL in the vicinity
of the Port Orchard airport, 1 TUFTED PUFFIN off Diamond Point, 2 WESTERN
KINGBIRDS also at Diamond Point, a male PURPLE MARTIN overhead at the
Port Townsend ferry dock, an adult HEERMAN'S GULL in breeding plumage
feeding with other seabirds seen from the ferry in a tiderip off Port
Townsend, and about 8 RUDDY TURNSTONES at Penn Cove. Good luck and good
birding.

4:29 p.m. 05-10-97: This is Hal Opperman, 206-635-0503. I'd like to
report a CLARK'S GREBE on Lake Washington seen this morning next to the
520 bridge between the drawspan and the west highrise on the north side
of the bridge and very close to it. This is a spot where there are often
small numbers of Western Grebes all winter long, and this morning a
single, very recognizable CLARK'S GREBE within about 50 feet of the
bridge. Thank you.

5:25 p.m. 05-10-97: Hi, this is Michael Preba, 623-7798. I guess it's up
to me to leave this report. This morning, Saturday, there was a SORA at
the Montlake Fill [Seattle] in the small pond nearest to the boundary of
the Urban Horticulture Center. It was in the brush behind it and stayed
until about 11 o'clock this morning so far as I could tell. There were
also a couple YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS, a few PIPITS, and a small group
of peeps--1 WESTERN SANDPIPER and about 6 LEAST. Thanks and good-bye.

5:29 p.m. 05-10-97: This is Michael Preba again with a very short
addendum to my report. At about 1:45 as well today, a calling OSPREY flew
over the Montlake Fill and was immediately harassed unmercifully by crows
and headed off over toward the ship canal. Also, a single VAUX'S SWIFT
flew by several times this afternoon. Thanks and good-bye.
