The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow
the prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

The Washington Ornithological Society would like to see the BirdBox
become a statewide aid to Birders. One of the reasons for this transcription
is as a service to those outside the local calling area and for people living
outside WA who are interested for whatever reason. We would like to offer an
email transcription service to anyone with a message for the BirdBox. (The
email will be placed as a phone message as well as an errorfree message on
the transcription). Send your message to halop at u.washington.edu with cc to
norton360 at aol.com, subplot at u.washington.edu & cehill at u.washington.edu (the cc
are in case Hal Opperman is out of town and the only cc really necessary is
to whoever is transcribing at the time you submit the message). Those active
birders and TWEETERS subscribers living outside the (206) area are requested
to let their non TWEETERS birding friends know this service is available and
to offer to post the message for them.

(My apologies to anyone whose name I have mangled. If anyone can supply
correct spellings of peoples names or place names, I am trying to keep a
list of correct spellings so those corrections would be appreciated).

[Transcribers note to Alan R. I was feeling more than usually pressed for
time and was cruising throgh Tweeters deleting with my index finger when I
opened your message about a correction to my transcription of Steve Dang's
message and before the message had totally reached my brain my index finger
automatically deleted the message. Please resend the message. Any corrections
are important as Hal archives all messages and Russell Rogers uses them for
his column on WA Observations. Sorry!]

7:33 PM, May 13 - Hi, this in Jim Flynn in Renton at (206) 772-5568. The male
Wilson's Phalarope was still present at the Kent Ponds as of approximately
5:30 today, May 13 and most all of the other good birds that were there are
gone. All that is left are a few Killdeer and Western Sandpipers. Thanks. Bye
Bye.

8:25 PM, May 13 - This is Anna Coles at (206) 543-1814 reporting for a
colleague at work on a sighting that he had on Sunday, May 11. He was on the
highway between Orting and South Prairie. About 2 miles south of Orting, he
saw what he believes is a White-tailed Kite. He said he watched it for about
3-5 minutes and got some pretty good looks at it - especially the underpart
and I was thinking that this was a fairly unusual place to see White-tailed
Kite, so I thought somebody else might want to hear about this. He saw this
on Sunday May 11 from approximately 9 to 9:30 AM. (sometime during that
period). Again about 2 miles south of Orting on the road between Orting and
South Prairie so, hopefully, someone else can go to that area and check out
the area and see what they can find.

11:51 AM, May 14 - This is Thais Bock, 839-2044. A Yellow-billed Loon has
been around the past two weeks in Pierce Co. south of Gig Harbor at Wollochet
Bay along Cromwell Drive. Now if you want further information call 265-6110.
Also on May 9 a Bluejay appeared at an Eatonville, which is in Pierce Co.,
feeder. That's out near Mt. Rainier. You can call 832-3797 for more details.
Bye.
