Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday May 15. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

A COMMON MOORHEN was found May 12 along the Central Patrol Road two miles
south of the Malheur Field Station. A PALM WARBLER was at Malheur
Headquarters May 9.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was in the pines just east of Parking Lot C at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River May 10 and 12. The wintering BLUE JAY at
Moro was seen again May 10.

Heavy migrations continue in Oregon with CHAT, SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, PEWEES,
and BULLOCK'S ORIOLES most conspicuous during the week. Along the coast
there were heavy movements of PACIFIC LOONS and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.

A COMMON TERN was at South Slough at Coos Bay May 10. An AVOCET was at
Yaquina Bay May 13, and a WESTERN KINGBIRD was at Cannon Beach May 11.
KNOTS, TATTLERS, and BROWN PELICANS were being regularly reported along the
coast.

A MOCKINGBIRD was first seen and heard May 9 near Providence Hospital in
northeast Portland. It is usually seen along 53d Street between Everett and
Flanders Streets. It is very noisy in the morning and is easily located.

YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were reported from the Forest Grove Ponds and at
the Blount Road Marshes near Canby May 11. Two WILSON'S PHALAROPES were at
Blount Road Marsh May 11, and a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was there May 12.

A pair of WILSON'S PHALAROPE have returned to the site in Baskett Slough
NWR where they nested last year. A LARK SPARROW was found May 8 along
Highway 20 east of Sweet Home. Two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS wree seen that
day at the Corbett Snow Park in Santiam Pass.

A BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was at Detroit Flats in the Cascades east of Salem
May 8. An immature male RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was found May 10 in the EE
Wilson SWA north of Corvallis.

BLUE GROUSE, MOUNTAIN QUAIL, and a CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD were seen along the
Marys Peak Road southwest of Corvallis during the week. A BARRED OWL was
seen recently along the Mill Hill Trail in Finley NWR. This appears to be a
regular area for them. BLACK TERNS returned to Fern Ridge Reservoir during
the week.

For those looking for EVENING GROSBEAKS they are now starting to swarm into
the Willamette Valley. Very large numbers of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES are now
on the Oregon State University Campus in Corvallis.
