......2 to 3 weeks as was indicated in "The Columbian" newspaper. The
refuge is repairing flood-damaged gravel roads, which were pretty bad
in spots the last time I was in this refuge.
......Cheer up!!!! Birdlife in the refuge is usually pretty quiet at
this time of the year.(though one can see raccoons, painted turtles,
rabbits, and several species of Garter snakes(3), and frogs of several
kinds). You may even see Green Herons, Soras, Am. Bitterns, and Virginia
Rails and other illusive winged creatures of the marsh and tall grasses.
And, oh yes.....the ever present Blue Heron!!!!!
......Yes, summer bring its own aura-----lazy, hazy days of beautiful
peace and quiet, in the Ridgefield Refuge---a restful place to hike and
escape the noise of conveyors and motors of my 'work-a-day' world!!!! I
love the refuge in the summer........fewer people(than the bird-filled
winter months).......a retreat for weary mind and body, and a place to
refresh the soul in the peace of God's handiwork.
