Tweeters: It seems to me that Jim is over-reacting and might examine his own
reasons for acting so violently. I read his earlier FLAME when this book ad
first appeared and wondered why he spassed out. No one has to read email
they don't want by simply hitting the delete button. No one has to watch the
crap on TV because there is an off switch. I think a kinder, gentler
approach is more worthy of the high caliber of folks that I believe are the
majority of bird watchers. Why not simply tell this guy in a nice way that
his ad is not bird related or appropriate if that is the way you feel?
(although destruction of the habitat, land, water, and plant resources
certainly has had and will continue to have an adverse impact on the birds we
love).
I had to respond because the author's motivation is obviously love for the
environment for which he may have gone over-board. Perhaps it takes a zealot
to change the status quo. Perhaps most of us are too complacent and
apathetic and represent the other extreme? Too often our society/culture
tends to respond to people with whom we disagree in anger, violence, the
finger, shoot-outs when a bit of love and compassion and reasoned
disagreement would suffice.
Let's keep our responses on the high road on Tweeters. If the majority of
subscribers find the ad offensive, I am sure that the list server can
unsubscribe David Doyle or in some way prevent him from posting. (?)
Sorry, I'm not usually this long-winded. Hans Krauss
