Hello OBOL & Tweeters:
While conducting point count bird surveys on
forest industry land in Pierce County,
Washington this past Sunday (5/18), I found a
singing BREWER"S SPARROW in a 2 year old
clearcut. Standing in that habitat and
listening to that song felt very odd! Also
recorded my first singing WILLOW
FLYCATCHER of the year near Lake
Kapowsin, Pierce County. Another seemingly
out of place bird species was the CANADA
GOOSE pair with 3 goslings that we
encountered waddling down a dusty logging
road through a 5 to 8 year old shrubby
plantation. No water in sight for about a mile,
except a little trickle in the roadside ditch.
