The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow
the prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

The Washington Ornithological Society would like to see the BirdBox
become a statewide aid to Birders. One of the reasons for this transcription
is as a service to those outside the local calling area and for people living
outside WA who are interested for whatever reason. We would like to offer an
email transcription service to anyone with a message for the BirdBox. (The
email will be placed as a phone message as well as an errorfree message on
the transcription). Send your message to halop at u.washington.edu with cc to
norton360 at aol.com, subplot at u.washington.edu & cehill at u.washington.edu (the cc
are in case Hal Opperman is out of town and the only cc really necessary is
to whoever is transcribing at the time you submit the message). Those active
birders and TWEETERS subscribers living outside the (206) area are requested
to let their non TWEETERS birding friends know this service is available and
to offer to post the message for them.

(My apologies to anyone whose name I have mangled. If anyone can supply
correct spellings of peoples names or place names, I am trying to keep a
list of correct spellings so those corrections would be appreciated).

10:29 PM, May 17 - Hi, this is Scott Downes 361-7073. Today I led a field
trip with (Rick Alfardo ???) up Green Mountain which is in south Kitsap Co.
Among the highlights, were Blue Grouse, Mountain Quail singing and about a
dozen Hermit Warblers near the campground. If you need directions to the
place, you can either look on the map, it is owned by the DNR, or you can
give me a call at the number listed before. Other highlights included 6
species of warblers, 4 species of flycatchers including Willow, Olive-sided,
Hammond's and Pacific-Slope and a nest of Solitary Vireo and Warbling Vireo.
Thanks a lot. Good luck and good biridng.

8:55 PM, May 18 - Hi, this is Greg Toffic at 338-1746. Today I birded in
Snohomish Co. from Startup up to above Spada Lake and nothing that was truly
unexpected, however, there was a Lazuli Bunting at the location that Lazuli
Buntings have been the last three years or so at Kellogg Lake Road and 132nd
Street. Kellogg Lake Road goes north from Highway 2 right near Startup - just
east of Starup. On the road on up past Spada Lake I flushed one Blue Grouse
and there were at least 4 calling from the hillsides. It was a beautiful day.
Good birding!

2:37 PM, May 19 - Hello, this is Scott Atkinson. Yesterday morning, May 18,
I had a Bank Swallow at Milltown Access to the Skagit WMA and I also had a
male Black Scoter flying north with various other scoters off of Washington
Park near Anacortes. That's all. Bye Bye.
