For those of you who camp to go birdwatching, the Salmon la Sac Campground
near Cle Elum is closed for the entire 1997 summer season. The campground
will undergo extensive water and sewer system repair to fix damage sustained
during the floods of Fall 1995 and Winter 1996. Some campgrounds may not be
free of snow by Memorial Day weekend. Kachess and Crystal Springs
Campgrounds still have three to four feet of snow in them. You might want to
check with the Forest Service to see which campgrounds are open before you
drive over and become disappointed.
