Yesterday I saw and heard the Brown Creeper among the alder stand, after
not observing him for several weeks. Went to look for his nest again, but
the bark "shingle" was gone from the alder snag. It was on the ground
beneath the snag, intact, with the nest still attached, but no sign of
eggs or nestlings. Hope the young ones got fledged in time.

The crows found the Bushtit nest in the hazelnut tree, and ravaged it. :-(
Sometimes I hate to find a nest, as it means the predators can too.
Birdwatching can be sad at times, but ending on an up note, the
Swainson's Thrush is singing his haunting song and the Black-headed
Grosbeak has proved me a liar as he sings from exposed branches and twigs,
and even visits our sunflower chip feeder that is right out our kitchen
window.
