On buteos as insect eaters...
Washington's Ferruginous Hawks sometimes eat loads of crickets. For sheer
number of individuals eaten, crickets exceeded even northern pocket gophers in
1995. Still, the pocket gophers are probably the hawks' most important prey
species here.
