Bob Mauritsen asked if it is common for raptors to eat large insects. I
understand that it is pretty common and that even Red-tailed Hawks will
fill up on grasshoppers and beatles if they aren't able to catch any
rodents. For some it may be a fall-back diet, and for others, like
Kestrels, pretty standard fare.
