Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday May 29. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

A male GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE and a male TENNESSEE WARBLER were in Fields May
23, but did not stay for the week-end. A male CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER and a
male REDSTART were at Fields May 25, but did not remain. A male COMMON
GRACKLE was at Fields May 26.

A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK and a female REDSTART were at Malheur
Headquarters May 27. Very large numbers of WILSON'S WARBLERS were reported
from many areas of eastern Oregon during the Memorial Day Week-end.

BLUE-WINGED TEAL are now arriving at many Oregon marshes as the late
migrants continue to move into the state. A May 25 offshore trip out of
Newport to 25 miles found several hundred SOOTY SHEARWATERS, and some
BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS and PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS. Also noted were a
couple of migrant flocks of SABINE'S GULLS and a flock of COMMON TERNS.

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at Meares Lake at Tillamook Bay May 25. A
BLACK-THROATED SPARROW visited a feeder in the Daybreak Park area north of
Vancouver, WA May 24. A WHITE PELICAN was at the south end of Oak Island on
Sauvie Island May 26. A male WILSON'S PHALAROPE, two DUNLIN, and a
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER were at the Forest Grove Ponds May 24.

A MOCKINGBIRD was at northeast 33d and Knott in Portland May 23. Another
was along Kings Grade Road northwest of Newberg May 22, and a third was
along 25th Street north of State Street in northeast Salem May 22.

Two YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS and two GREAT EGRETS were at Baskett Slough
NWR May 23. Another GREAT EGRET was at Finley NWR May 26. The BLACK TERN
colony at Fern Ridge Reservoir west of Eugene is active again this year.
Six pairs of WESTERN GREBES and three pairs of CLARK'S GREBES are also
present and presumed nesting.

A GREEN HERON was along Rock Creek east of Condon May 25. Two RED-NECKED
GREBES were at Willow Creek Reservoir east of Madras May 26. Good numbers
of MOUNTAIN QUAIL were heard that day north of the reservoir around the
town of Ashwood.

On May 26 a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was at the prairie town of Kent in Sherman
County and a SWAINSON'S THRUSH was in Moro. A LEAST FLYCATCHER was back on
territory at Clyd Holliday State Park near Mt. Vernon May 26. The
TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD colony at the Stanfield Marsh along I84 is active
again this year.

Tuesday, June 3 is Birders Night at Portland Audubon. The meeting will be
