Dear BirdChatters--

I am posting the following at Victor's request. Replies to him should be sent
to: VENTBIRD at aol.com.

Good birding,

Jeff Gordon

PS: Sounds like a good idea :-)

I recently spoke with my close friend, Virginia Peterson, the widow of Roger
Tory Peterson. She told me she has met with U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd to
discuss the idea of naming a
national wildlife refuge after Dr. Peterson. Senator Dodd said he would work
to make that happen. The one Mrs. Peterson has in mind is the recently
created NWR near Cape May, New
Jersey, the "Cape May National Wildlife Refuge." Evidently the manager of
this refuge has endorsed naming it after Roger, and in fact, indicated he
would be honored to have the refuge
he manages named the Roger Tory Peterson National Wildlife Refuge. I can
think of no more fitting memorial to Dr. Peterson. I know that millions of
other birders would feel as I do. It would be especially appropriate to name
a refuge near Cape May after Dr. Peterson. He loved to birdwatch in that
area and spent many happy days there. If you want to lend your support to
this idea, please write:

Victor Emanuel
