Janet,

I used to see turtles pretty regularly in the UC Davis arboretum. The
Arboretum follows an old fork of Putah Creek, now dammed at both ends, so
it is now just a long, skinny pond. There are paths along both sides, and
it can be a nice walk. Nuttall's and acorn woodpeckers are both possible,
and yellow-billed magpies are almost certain. The arboretum is on the south
side of campus, and I most often saw turtles near the west end.
