hi tweeters,
after hear the news:SANDHILL CRANE at west valley hwy.i took a little
birding-trip in to auburn and kent.
i started at the 400 marsh in auburn.this used to be a good birding spot in
the old good days.but the marsh is cut in half, because the build the big
super-mall there.i never forgot patrick led a fieldtrip for the audubon in
the late 80- the exact date 4-24-88 we saw 12 virginia-rails there.people
couln't believe what there saw.today after all the disturbance of habit,i
heared two VIRGINIA-RAILS calling, a large flock of american goldfinches 35
and a northern shrike where present.in the cactails a lonley marsh-wren
where calling.
since there where so few red-winget blackbird,so the marsh seems to
quite, one can hear the street noise, because of cutting also trees down.
from there i went to 15th street n.w. in auburn accross from the emerald
downs,this is on M street N.W. goes of 15 th streetN.W. there farm-fields
which are floodet in the winter.i saw groups of green-winged teals, american
wigeons large numbers of northern-pintails and 42 dunlin and 2 common
snipe.
this been also a good birding-spot in auburn
now west valley freeway:floodet fields produced again large numbers of
ducks lots of pintails and green-winged teals and american wigeon.but i had
shorebirds again. 42 dunlins and 58 long- billed dowitcheralso 6 mew-gulls
from there i went to the kent ponds looking to the fence from the back
side, more birders there,we had also dunlins dowitcher species 2 and in a
large flock of canada goose,20 cackling geese, in flight there looked like
ducks in size.
