It was a "record" morning at the Ballard Locks. 25 Bonaparte's and 7 Mew
Gulls were perched on the cable at the west (business end) of the
spillway. It was a pretty neat sight. About a dozen more of each were
feeding in the turbulent water. There was one Western Gull sitting in the
large lock with about 50 Glaucous-winged and hybrids, it was nice of it
to pose so close to the walkway so I could get a good look at its
features. There is also one Dusky race Canada Goose on the north terraced
lawn, it's been there about a week. There are now 4 female Common
Mergansers at the west entrance to the large lock, both Belted
Kingfishers are still there, about 5 Great Blue Herons and two Hutton's
Vireos. Oh, and maybe 10 Double Crested Comorants. Still no Goldeneyes.

The Dawn Redwoods are turning color too.
