If the "hills are alive with the sound of music", then the lake shore is
alive with the chatter of Winter Wrens. Saw 4 in about a 2-mile stretch.
That's at least twice as many as has been seen lately. BTW, only one of the
four had a tail as stubby as portrayed in Peterson. The others had tails
that appear just slightly longer than portrayed in other common field
guides(NG, ABC, Golden).
One Pied-billed Grebe is still around. Overall, it is American Wigeons,
American Coots and Mallards that are in the sloughs, along with Buffleheads,
1 Lesser Scaup, and a group of 9 Green-winged Teal. Black-capped Chickadees
are becoming more numerous. Also spotted a Brown creeper and 2
Golden-crowned Kinglets.
